Five years after the tsunami that devastated several countries in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, one of the worst affected, is taking time to recover. In a few minutes the tsunami killed 35 000 people in this country and caused 900 millions of dollars of damage. Over 100 000 houses were destroyed or seriously damaged, and over 150 000 people lost their livelihoods.

Over 100 000 houses were destroyed or seriously damaged, and over 150 000 people lost their livelihoods.

The international reconstruction effort helped to repair the infrastructures and to relocate most of the 500 000 displaced people. But after the international organizations left the country, 26 000 people are still waiting for help in the temporary refugee camps.
